The Saiga
On-the-go pour over
Folds flat. Sits on any cup. Travels light.
Not out yet
These are production samples, photographed on a phone at the factory. Proper photographs, the full setup guide and a first-time video all land on this page when the piece ships. Scan the code again then and it will have changed.
The piece
Two arms open, the cone sits on the rim, and that is the whole setup. A double stainless mesh does the filtering, so there is no paper to run out of and nothing to throw away. It closes down to almost nothing and lives in the cup it brews into. This is the ease end of the range — coffee that asks for a kettle and five minutes, wherever you happen to be.
Specifications are provisional until the production run is confirmed
How it works
Open the arms
Swing both arms out until they lock, and rest the cone on the rim of your cup.
Grounds in
Medium grind, level. A quick rinse of the mesh with hot water warms the cup at the same time.
Pour in stages
Wet the grounds, wait half a minute, then pour in slow circles. Lift it off and let it drip out.
Treated well
Do
- Rinse it the moment you finish
- Dry it before folding it away
- Store it inside the cup it brews into
- Brush the mesh clean weekly
Don't
- Never put it over direct heat
- Do not use a fine espresso grind; it will choke
- Do not press or scrub the mesh with anything hard
- Do not use it on a cup that is too wide to hold it
Kinship — The saiga crossed the Ice Age steppe in great migrations and is still here, just about. Named for the piece built to travel.
